Lots of updates – it’s been way too long

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:23 pm

It’s been an exciting few weeks since I last updated, well, at least marginally exciting. I’ll let you decide. BTW – click on a Google link above, it’ll help me out a little :). I know, that was shameless….

Nickey has decided to get a job recently. She had taken classes to become a travel agent a long time ago but had decided to pursue other options when she realized there’s not a lot of money in it. As luck would have it this past experience would help her get a job last week. She works for a local travel agency and has the flexibility to work from home, for now. She’s still getting up to speed so we’ll see how it goes. She’s been doing stuff with new friends lately as well as doing play-dates for Hayden so I think (hope?) she’s getting the socialization opportunities she’s been wanting for a long time. I find it funny, though, that since moving to L.A. that she’s taken a lot of crap from her Washington “friends” and family. Why can’t people just be happy for us and stop judging us for our decision – especially when some of them are a little hypocritical and/or don’t know what the hell they are talking about. Bah.

Hayden had his first parent/teacher conference today. I wasn’t able to go to it but Nickey said it went well and he’s doing well in school. He’s a little behind the other kids in identifying letters and all his colors, he started almost half a school year behind the other kids in his class so it’s understandable. We work with him but not as much as we should so we’re going to start focusing on that a little more. Nickey bought flash cards and some other educational aids today to help a little and has come up with a great way of making it a game so he doesn’t associate it with being something he has to do, but rather it’s something he wants to do.

On “Easter” we kind of jumped the gun…by accident. For some reason Nickey thought Easter was the Sunday before it actually was Easter, so we celebrated a little early. Fortunately Hayden is young enough to not really know the difference. We got him a big wheel – and I’m jealous. They need to make those things for big kids! He’s already gotten a lot of use out of it and seems to really like it, even moreso than his Spiderman bike.

I’ve been interviewing a little more lately. So far I’ve been on three interviews – one with a toy company in Malibu about two months ago, one with the City of Burbank last week, and today I had one with a “web hosting” company which is why I missed Hayden’s P/T meeting today. I say “web hosting” because they provide adult content. That doesn’t bother me, and Nickey says she’s okay with it if I don’t start enjoying my job a little to much 🙂 It’s a really small company and it sounds like a huge task since they are going from contracting out their S.A.’s to bringing the jobs back in-house again, but I really think this is what I’ve been looking for. Fast paced, lots of different technologies, and a laid back environment. It would be nice to be able to wear shorts to work again. They are going to set up a second interview some time next week and I think that if they like me and if they offer me enough then I’ll probably take it. I’m pretty excited about it – and not because of what they do – because I think it’s the fast paced and flexable job I’ve been looking for. I still wish Line 6 would call me in for an interview though….

We’ve been starting to see a few celebrities lately. I saw Billy Crystal last week in a camera shop and we saw Rikki Rockett (drummer from Poison) at a vegan restaurant on Sunday. Rikki looks just like he did back when he was in the band, except there’s no makeup…as far as I saw. According to Wikipedia he’s a big time vegan and animal rights activist – so he’s okay in our book. We’ll keep our eyes open for more celebs.

Other than that I think the only other thing to report is that Hayden is doing well in karate and is going to be tested soon for his third stripe on his white belt. After he gets his fifth strip then he gets bumped up to a yellow belt. Oh, and he’s been a little more testy lately but I think we’ve got our attitude adjustment game plan down and he seems to be responding well. It’s a constant refinement process though. He’s a great kid, and like all kids he just needs a little guidance in the right direction sometimes. I do like to call him Little Mussolini though sometimes – especially when he asks a question, we answer it, then he proceeds to tell us “No, that (sic) not it”. I love that little guy.

I have a great life and a great family.

  1. Sometimes “Friends” aren’t judging, they are concerned about their “Friends” that they’ve seen go through some hard times in the past and don’t want them to experience hard times again. 🙂
